Instead of Sleeping Pills

Sleep

Instead of relying on sleeping pills, consider the advice of renowned Swiss neurologist and Nobel Prize winner R. V. Hess.

Get comfortable, relax your muscles, and imagine yourself sinking into a soft surface. Focus on something pleasant, and don’t worry about the time slipping away that’s meant for sleep. This way, the minutes spent waiting for sleep will no longer feel exhausting; they will transform into a calming moment, a transition from the past day to the one ahead.

Cold feet can keep you awake for a long time, just like bright lights can. So, before bed, try soaking your feet in warm water, give them a good scrub with a rough washcloth, and slip on some cotton socks.

Instead of taking sleeping pills, try this exercise: sit on a chair, relax your back muscles, let your arms hang down, and lower your head to your chest. Completely unwind. After a few minutes, you’ll find yourself longing to lie down in bed. Also, instead of using various “thought pillows,” it’s better to use a firm neck roll placed under your neck for support.
