Plants That Repel Pests

Pest

BLACKCURRANT is often affected by mites, leading to disease and a halt in fruit production. Planting garlic and onions under the bush releases special biologically active substances called phytoncides, which repel this pest.

GOOSEBERRY can fall victim to sawflies and currant borers. However, they are deterred by the scent of tomatoes. So, when you prune the suckers from your tomato plants, don’t throw them away; instead, place them around the gooseberry bushes.

APPLE TREES are susceptible to codling moths. Planting dill and tomatoes around the tree creates a protective zone.

STRAWBERRIES attract slugs. Rows of parsley planted around the garden can help boost your yield.

RASPBERRIES tend to spread rapidly, sending out new shoots. A row of sorrel planted along the edge can act as a natural barrier.

CARROTS are protected from root maggots and both white and gray mold by planting onions nearby.

POTATOES are prone to Colorado potato beetles. Planting beans in the rows can provide some level of protection.

BEANS are not favored by moles, so if you have a mole problem, consider planting a few bean bushes in the area.
