An elderly man from Moscow bought a duck at the store. When he brought it home, his wife began to prepare the bird. But as she cut into the gullet, four shiny stones fell out along with some leftover food and sand. They were yellow, very heavy, and could easily be scratched with the tip of a knife.
It turned out that the duck had been carrying gold nuggets in its gullet.
People began to wonder where Moscow had sourced this particular bird. It came from various regions—Rostov, Kurgan, Belgorod, as well as Krasnodar and Stavropol. However, the exact origin of the “gold-bearing” duck remained a mystery.
Interestingly, finding gold in a duck’s gullet and intestines isn’t as rare as one might think. In the Chinese province of Hunan, ducks are raised in large numbers, and when they are processed, their insides are examined very carefully. This is because Hunan ducks forage in mud that contains gold dust. Gradually, the walls of their intestines become coated with a thin layer of gold.
So it seems that ducks can actually mine for gold!
