Floor Mastic

Two parts of wax are cut into small pieces and melted over low heat. Before this, one part of pure potash should be completely dissolved in water and strained through a cloth. The potash solution is gradually poured into the hot wax. Once the wax and potash solution are combined, this mixture should be placed over the heat, allowed to boil well, and then gradually add in small pieces 1/4 of a bar of household soap. After a few minutes, the vessel can be removed from the heat and the liquid poured into another container, having first added a bit of yellow dye or ochre, which is used to color wool or cotton fabrics. The dye should be thoroughly mixed with water to avoid any clumps. Then, place the vessel back on the heat to let the solution boil two or three times. If the mastic turns out too thick, dilute it with water until it reaches the consistency of cream. When applying the mastic, it should be shaken frequently to ensure an even application on the parquet floor, which must be clean and dry. The mastic is applied along the boards in a single coat. It dries quickly and has no odor.
