Room Furnishing

Nowadays, homes are being built with small, separate apartments. Naturally, it can be quite challenging to fit bulky furniture into these spaces. Beds and wardrobes take up a lot of room, which is why compact, multifunctional furniture—like sofa beds, convertible chairs, and foldable or pull-out beds—is becoming increasingly popular.

Wardrobes. Wall-mounted wardrobes are incredibly convenient and can be found in many new homes. In places where they aren’t available, and if the apartment layout allows, you can create one yourself. Such a wardrobe consists of a frame covered with plywood. The plywood should be sanded, painted, and then primed before polishing or painting with oil-based paint to match the color of the doors or walls.

The wardrobe should extend to the ceiling, with a depth of about 24 inches (60 cm). In the section designated for linens, you can install pull-out shelves. In the lower part of the clothing section, a slanted shelf for shoes can be placed at a low height, while a shelf for hats can be positioned higher up. A mirror can be attached to the inside of one of the doors. You can also create dividers in the drawers for organizing smaller items. A strip of fabric can be nailed to the inner wall for hanging ties. The upper section of the wardrobe, intended for seasonal items, is best designed with sliding doors for easier access.

Tables. Both round and rectangular tables have their advantages. A round table can accommodate more people, while a rectangular table doesn’t have to be placed in the center of the room. For smaller spaces, a combined table can be a great solution. Its base is rectangular, while the removable top is round. The round tabletop can be used as needed, but it’s usually folded and stored away when not in use.

Children’s furniture. To accommodate children’s furniture, it’s essential to designate a separate corner where you can comfortably place a low table and two chairs or small armchairs. For toys, it’s advisable to have a small cabinet with pull-out drawers, and for clothing, a wall-mounted hook at a low height works well. For school-aged children, instead of a traditional desk, it’s better to opt for a small secretary that serves as a workspace, bookshelf, and storage for educational materials and games.
