Ingredients:

  • 2 boiled beets
  • 1 boiled carrot
  • 2 boiled potatoes
  • 3.5 oz cream cheese
  • 1 package of mayonnaise, preferably full-fat
  • 1 lightly salted herring
  • 1.5 tsp gelatin

Instructions:

Soak the gelatin in 1/4 cup of cold water, allowing it to swell, then dissolve it in a double boiler without bringing it to a boil. Once it cools, mix it with the mayonnaise. Grate the beets, carrot, and potatoes using a fine grater. Cut the herring into pieces.

Lay several layers of plastic wrap on the table. Add 3-4 tablespoons of the gelatin-mayonnaise mixture to the grated beets, mix well, and spread it onto the plastic wrap. Next, add the cream cheese, also mixed with gelatin (2-3 tablespoons).

Keep in mind that each subsequent layer should be smaller in area than the previous one. This is essential!

Next, add the grated carrot with 2-3 tablespoons of the gelatin mixture. Then, layer the potatoes with the same amount of the mixture. Don’t forget to lightly salt each layer. The final ingredient is the herring, which should be placed in a line down the center of the rectangle.

The technique is similar to making sushi rolls: carefully holding the edges of the plastic wrap, roll the salad into a log, then wrap the log in foil and place it in the refrigerator for a few hours. After that, you can slice the “fur coat” into rounds, just like a roll.

Enjoy!
