At a permafrost research station in the Russian Far East, scientists have taken a keen interest in a layer of preserved peat vegetation found within the eternal frost. Upon investigation, they discovered that among the moss stems were spores of fungi, algae embryos, and the eggs of a freshwater beetle known as a hydrous. But the most astonishing revelation was this: the thawed organisms produced offspring. Now, in test tubes and specialized petri dishes, researchers can showcase living, thriving contemporaries of the woolly mammoth. When the pieces of fossilized peat were carefully thawed, the experimenters witnessed a breathtaking scene! The spores awakened, and the beetle eggs began to develop. Life, once halted by the ancient cold, has resumed!
