2 cups of lard or 2 packages of margarine
2 cups of sour cream (a thicker, tangier version of sour cream common in Eastern European cuisine)
1 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of ammonia
Flour, as needed
Mix the lard, sour cream, and sugar well.
Add the ammonia and flour, and knead the mixture.
Continue adding flour and kneading until the dough is similar to that used for dumplings.
Roll it out thinly, sprinkle with cinnamon, and roll it up tightly.
Cut into small pieces, dip one side in sugar, and place them on a baking sheet or parchment paper.
Bake until golden brown.
If using margarine, cream it with the flour, then add the sour cream, sugar, and ammonia, and knead the dough as you would for dumplings.
This recipe yields a generous portion.
