Traffic Light with Brains

Traffic lights on city streets can be quite inconvenient. While one direction may have a green light, there might not be a single car in sight. Meanwhile, a red light can halt an entire line of vehicles in another direction.

However, at one intersection in Leningrad, a new type of traffic light has emerged—one equipped with a “brain.” This intelligent device, connected to special sensors, determines which direction vehicles are approaching from and how many there are, instantly deciding the best and quickest way to manage their passage.

But what happens if a fire truck or an ambulance approaches? Will it notice? Unless the driver of such a vehicle presses a special button, it won’t. Fortunately, all emergency vehicles are equipped with devices that demand the attention of this “thinking” traffic light.

Pedestrians are not forgotten either. Periodically, the flow of traffic is interrupted in one direction or the other, allowing pedestrians to cross the street safely.
