Incident at the Customs

An elderly postal worker shrugged his shoulders and said, “If you insist on sending packages to someone unknown, at least help me carry them to the service area. I can’t manage these boxes on my own…” But all the paperwork was in order, and the packages began their journey to distant Switzerland, a trip of no less than 1,600 miles.

At the Swiss border, the strange packages caught the attention of customs officers since the recipient was not listed. They decided to open them.

As soon as the lid came off one of the boxes, the customs officers reached for their guns:
“Hands up!”
Out of the box emerged a pale man with a scruffy beard, raising his hands.
“Who are you?”
“Panara Kalogera, an unemployed man from Sicily.”
“And who’s in this box?”
“My friend, Giuseppe Presti. Our relatives packed us up and sent us to Switzerland. Maybe here we can find work and not starve.”
It seems life in Sicily is tough if people are resorting to such measures.
