SHOULD A CHILD BE SEATED AT THE COMMON TABLE?

When your child is small, their feeding schedule usually doesn’t align with the times when the rest of the family sits down to eat. Plus, it can be challenging to feed a little one at the family table. But as they grow, learn to use a spoon, and start eating around the same time as everyone else, it’s time to let them join the adults at the table.

However, don’t make the child the center of attention. Avoid entertaining them; instead, encourage them to eat independently, and don’t feed them foods that aren’t meant for them. All family members should share a unified approach to this. It shouldn’t be the case that one person allows the child to try a certain dish or treat while another forbids it.

Consistency in expectations for the child is essential across the board; this is one of the most important conditions for proper upbringing.
