Furniture Cleaning

Before cleaning, it’s important to wipe the furniture thoroughly with a dry cloth. Then, take a small amount of the ready-made “Polish” mixture—a light brown liquid—and, using a piece of clean flannel, rub it onto the wooden parts of the furniture. After 30 to 40 minutes, buff the furniture with a dry flannel cloth until it shines.

You can also prepare a special mixture. In an enameled pot, melt 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces) of finely chopped yellow wax over low heat, along with 12 grams (about 0.4 ounces) of mastic or 25 grams (about 0.9 ounces) of rosin powder. Once the mixture has melted, remove it from the heat and immediately stir in 50 grams (about 1.8 ounces) of warm turpentine. Store this liquid in iron or glass jars.

To clean furniture, dampen a soft wool cloth with this liquid and use it to polish the surfaces of wooden items.
