Oh, how I waited for this little one! Every single day of my pregnancy, I would talk to that tiny human growing inside me, telling her that she was the greatest Miracle of our lives. I told her how much her dad and I loved her, how much we were waiting for her, and that she should never be afraid — we would always be by her side.
Giving birth was one of the greatest celebrations of my life. In the most difficult moments, I kept thinking: “Hold on, Lena, just a little longer and you’ll finally meet her! You’ve been waiting for this so long!” And those words truly helped me.
When I entered the pre-delivery room, another woman had just been transferred to the delivery ward — and when I heard her baby cry for the first time, tears started rolling down my cheeks… I couldn’t believe that in just a little while (however long it would take), I would hear MY OWN baby cry! That sound, that anticipation — it will probably remain one of the most vivid memories of my life.
And then we met. And she really was a little Miracle. Throughout the entire pregnancy, I couldn’t picture what she would look like, but the moment I saw her — I knew without a doubt: she was exactly how I had dreamed her to be. She felt so familiar, so close, so MINE, it’s impossible to describe.
The moment they laid that tiny human being on my chest — so warm and wet — the entire world stopped. For a brief moment, there was only HER and ME.
The birth of a child is the greatest happiness there is. Only in that moment do you feel the full richness of life. And only then, with your baby’s very first cry, a new version of yourself is born. Only then do you truly understand the meaning of that precious word — MOM.
