An ambitious project is set to take shape east of Sharjah International Airport, right next to the headquarters of the environmental company Beeah. The Beeah headquarters was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and completed in 2022.
Beeah’s headquarters will mark the northernmost point of Khalid Bin Sultan City. Each of its seven districts will be arranged around a central public space. A two-kilometer park will create a winding path through the heart of the city, meandering between the curved outlines of the districts.
The park will feature spacious relaxation areas and vibrant meeting spots, including courtyards with sculptures, ponds, gardens, wellness centers, playgrounds, running and biking trails, cafes, and restaurants.
“The width of this park varies, with its boundaries expanding in certain areas to create green enclaves for various activities. Instead of revealing itself all at once, this linear oasis unfolds gradually, offering glimpses of what lies ahead and encouraging curiosity and exploration,” Zaha Hadid Architects said.
Residents in the buildings overlooking the two-kilometer park will enjoy luxurious panoramic views. The design aims to foster a connection between residents and nature.
According to their vision, the distinctive residential buildings and other structures will mimic the smooth forms of desert dunes.

A Clean Environment Above All
One of the top priorities for Zaha Hadid Architects is preserving a clean environment, a principle evident in their new project for the emirate of Sharjah. The master plan for Khalid Bin Sultan City emphasizes pedestrian pathways over roadways. It aims to minimize residents’ reliance on cars, and the limited transportation options will be eco-friendly.
The new city will utilize renewable energy sources and innovative water recycling and purification systems.

Colonnades and trees will shade the pathways connecting the neighborhoods. Water bodies with green islands will help lower ground temperatures in the hot climate, as reported by Dezeen.
“By moving away from car-centric urban planning, which has been shown to significantly raise temperatures in urban environments, the Khalid Bin Sultan City project focuses on pedestrian convenience, ecological cohesion, and a strong sense of place,” Zaha Hadid Architects said.

What Else Will Be in the Oasis City?
Adjacent to the Beeah headquarters will be a Cultural Center, hosting exhibitions, concerts, festivals, and conferences. Planned for the southern edge of the central public space are a mosque, a sports complex, and a shopping center.
Overall, the new city project includes a variety of amenities catering to all generations.

“Khalid Bin Sultan City is envisioned as a year-round living environment, a place where people of all ages can live and work surrounded by nature. From iconic sites like a modern mosque to the Cultural Center and indoor sports facilities, every element of the city is designed to promote health, well-being, and the highest quality of life,” Zaha Hadid Architects said.
