The invention is a hybrid of an umbrella and a drone, controlled by a remote. Most of the parts for the quadcopter are 3D-printed.

Umbrella With a handheld umbrella – that’s a thing of the past, believes the developer. In his opinion, 2024 is the year for umbrellas that don’t need to be held. They should move above the user, protecting them from the rain.

Currently, this practical concept needs improvement.

How it works invention and what it lacks

To realize his idea, the YouTuber needed a yellow umbrella purchased from a store, a GPS module, and 3D-printed parts. The majority of the components were made from lightweight carbon fiber. The engineer discussed all of this in a presentation video on his channel. He also mentioned that this is far from his first attempt to create a flying umbrella. Although previous variations on this theme were unsuccessful, the inventor did not abandon the idea.

Unfortunately, for now, the inventor operates the umbrella using a two-handed remote control. This means that it is not suitable for a trip to the store, as the user won’t be able to carry their purchases.

Another imperfection of the model is the inability to fold the umbrella indoors or in transport.

Testing of the invention revealed another flaw. At the slightest gust of wind, the umbrella would escape from its owner and break, the publication reported. Daily Mail .

However, the engineer YouTuber is now planning to create an improved version of the flying umbrella that can autonomously track the user and reliably shield them from the rain.

“In the future, I could attach a camera to the bottom of the umbrella and write a program that would track my location and move my umbrella accordingly,” noted the enthusiast.
