Astronomers have determined when and how the Sun will die.

The death of the star, without which no earthly being can imagine their life, will occur in about 5-5.5 billion years.

Scientists are confident that the Sun, which is about 4.6 billion years old, will die when it reaches around 10 billion years or a little more.

The temperature on its surface is about 5,500 degrees Celsius, while inside the star it reaches 20 million °C. Year after year, researchers have proposed increasingly new theories about the demise of our star. Ultimately, by analyzing observations of other stars similar to the Sun, scientists have made predictions regarding its final days.

One thing can be stated for sure: we will no longer be here by then. According to astronomers, humanity has about one billion years left to dominate the Earth.

The thing is, with every billion years, the brightness and temperature of the Sun increase by about 10 percent. Eventually, our oceans will evaporate, and the planet’s surface will become too hot for life, the publication reported. Science Alert .

Using computer modeling, astronomers have analyzed other stars similar to the Sun (comparable to our star in age and key parameters). In about 5 billion years, it is expected to transform into a red giant. The star’s core will contract, while its outer layers will expand to the orbit of Mars, ultimately engulfing our planet.

Scientists believe that the Sun will then transform from a red giant into a white dwarf. After that, it will become a planetary nebula that will shine for about 10,000 years.

According to astrophysicist Albert Zijlstra from the University of Manchester (UK), when a star dies, it ejects a mass of gas and dust into space, known as its shell. By this point, the hydrogen supply in the star’s core is depleted. Eventually, the core dies completely. This signifies the imminent end of the star.
