The futuristic sports-style outfits are created, manufactured, and sold by the British company Vollebak. The silver fabric used to make this clothing blocks electromagnetic and infrared radiation, as well as bacteria. This is the same protective material that NASA used during the construction of the Curiosity rover.
The Shielding Suit has pockets for a mobile phone, but it cannot be tracked, whether it is on or off.
“We designed the jacket to be comfortable to wear anywhere, like a regular lightweight jacket; the only difference is that you’ll look like you just stepped off a spaceship,” the company stated.
Previously, the company’s technologists created equally eccentric clothing, such as a lava-resistant jacket for the apocalypse or a cocoon suit for traveling. Mars Inventors are currently working on an invisibility cloak in the style of Harry Potter.
What else did the innovators report about the untraceable suit?
To create this wardrobe item, the British collaborated with the German laboratory Shieldex, which develops high-tech metallic fabrics for digital forensics, medical textiles, and the aerospace industry.
On the company’s website, the inventors shared: “Long before… rover Curiosity was sent to Mars to search for signs of life, but it needed to be tested here on Earth. Therefore, NASA created an electromagnetic shielding tent to completely block external electromagnetic radiation during the tests. And now we have used this technology to develop our first protective suit.
Its outer shell is covered with pure with silver that blocks radio waves and microwaves in the frequency range from 0.2 to 10 GHz. This range includes Wi-Fi satellites, Bluetooth, and Ku-band, as well as radar systems that use radio waves to determine the location of objects.
The suit also reflects medium- and long-wave infrared radiation. Therefore, in the dark, infrared cameras will not be able to see it, the publication reported. Daily Mail .
According to the company, the Shielding Suit features pockets for phones that operate on the principle of a “Faraday cage” – a closed enclosure that neutralizes electromagnetic fields. The device is named after the legendary English physicist Michael Faraday, who invented it in 1836. Faraday cages are used in data centers, laboratories, and hospitals.
“Silver is both electrically conductive and antimicrobial, which means it can reflect certain types of electromagnetic energy while simultaneously killing bacteria,” the company noted. The antibacterial properties of silver help combat diseases.
However, this suit is not cheap: the jacket costs £2495, and the trousers are £1495. So the total price for the entire set is £3990.
