In childhood, many of us dreamed of embarking on space when he becomes an adult. But life aboard space stations, in particular ISS not as romantic and glamorous as it seems.
However, it is expected to change significantly for the better soon. At least, that is what the company Vast, which is building next-generation platforms for living and scientific research in space, has stated.
Thanks to the publication Daily Mail We can take a look inside Haven-1 – the first private commercial space station that will explore outer space next year. Vast announced that by the time of the launch, around one billion dollars will have been invested in the station.
And what’s inside?
According to experts, the Haven-1 station is significantly more modern and spacious than the old ISS, which has been in space since 1998.
The new space platform has everything necessary for comfortable living and working. astronauts To create the interiors of the station, the company Vast enlisted the world-renowned designer Peter Russell-Clarke. According to him, “the interiors of Haven-1 are unprecedented; they are meticulously designed and thought out to provide its residents with comfortable conditions in space.”
On the outside, Haven-1 looks like any other spacecraft. However, the interior of the station is truly pleasantly surprising. It is much warmer and cozier than that of the ISS. Its details are made of maple wood. The interior surfaces of Haven-1 have an additional soft layer that “protects crew members and visitors while they move around the station,” the company stated.
The project authors deemed it necessary to create four separate rooms for the crew members, located above and below the main corridor. There, the astronauts will rest and recharge for their work.
These spacious personal rooms are somewhat larger than the cabins on board the ISS, noted Vast. They were specifically designed so that astronauts can change clothes, relax, and communicate with their loved ones via SpaceX’s Starlink internet connection without any distractions. Most importantly, these private spaces ensure that space explorers also get a good night’s rest.
In the past, sleep for astronauts was a challenging task, as they could not lie horizontally due to gravity. However, the company Vast has solved this problem by offering space travelers a unique patented sleep system.
Astronauts will sleep on large beds (the size of a classic double bed). They provide “individual uniform pressure throughout the night” and are suitable for sleeping both on the side and on the back, the company explained.
And that’s not all.
The area of the main common space is 24 m³. It serves as a multifunctional center where the crew will eat, exercise, conduct laboratory experiments, and relax.
There is a convenient folding table that can be hidden in the floor when needed. Through the large observation window, astronauts will be able to observe the Earth. They will maintain their physical fitness in a modern gym equipped with the latest resistance training system.
“The system of expanders in the general area is equipped with body attachments and stations for individual exercise programs that will help strengthen bones, muscles, and the cardiovascular system,” the company Vast reported.
This system allows for both linear and rotational resistance exercises, with a special focus on the health of the musculoskeletal system.
An experienced astronaut participated in consulting the project authors. NASA Andrew Feustel, who spent over 225 days on the ISS, testified that the new cozy station Haven-1 has solved many problems that astronauts faced aboard the ISS. Every detail of the station is designed with their needs in mind.
