Floating Port Oxagon: An Octagonal City on Water to Be Built in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian government has unveiled plans for the construction of the Oxagon port in the northeastern part of the country. The city is set to be completed by 2030 and is designed to accommodate 90,000 residents. According to the developers’ plans, it will provide jobs for 70,000 people.

This will be the largest floating structure in the world and will be part of the ambitious Neom project, which also includes the construction of the mirrored vertical city called The Line and the Trojena resort. All components of Neom will operate on renewable energy sources. This initiative is part of the country’s Vision 2030 plan aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil.

Oxagon – A City in Harmony with Nature

The octagonal Oxagon port will rise on the Red Sea, near the Suez Canal. The city will serve as both a port and a logistics hub for Neom, as reported by Dezeen.

The majority of the city will be situated on water. Inside the port, which will become the largest floating structure in the world, there will be interconnected plazas, an oceanographic research center, a cruise terminal, and many other infrastructure facilities. The main area of the city will cover 48 square kilometers.

The floating port project states that it will be a place where “people, industry, and technology will exist in harmony with nature.”

As Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman noted, Oxagon will act as a catalyst for economic growth and diversity for Neom and the entire kingdom. The Crown Prince believes that the port will contribute to rethinking the global approach to industrial development, environmental protection, and job creation, as well as to regional trade in Saudi Arabia.

The Incredible Giant Project Neom

In addition to the floating city, the fantastic Neom project will feature the long and towering city of The Line and the Trojena resort, which will offer a variety of landscapes and entertainment options.

Each aspect of the project is remarkable in its own right. The Line, which will cost the state a trillion dollars to build, will stretch for 170 kilometers. It will consist of two mirrored skyscrapers, each reaching a height of 500 meters. The city is expected to house 9 million residents. The project was designed by the American architectural firm Morphosis.

The Trojena resort, covering approximately 60 square kilometers, will be located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia and will amaze visitors with its diverse natural and artificial tourist attractions. Vacationers will enjoy the beauty of the nature reserve, stroll through lush meadows, and walk along a lake in the high mountains. Plans include the construction of an observatory and ski slopes. Notably, the ski area of the resort has been designed by the British architectural firm Zaha Hadid. Tourists will stay in luxurious apartments. Trojena is expected to welcome its first guests as early as 2026.
