What was better yesterday is worse today. And it would be fine if it were just boredom and a splitting headache. But there’s also tremors, dehydration, weakness, swelling, arrhythmia, and fatigue. Hangovers are no innocent phenomenon; they are a form of toxic poisoning. And it’s crucial to detoxify the body properly.
Aperitif
To ease your discomfort in the morning, start your treatment the night before. Take some sorbents before and after the feast. The simplest option is activated charcoal (one tablet for every 10 kilograms of body weight). Paradoxically, having a little drink beforehand (up to 100 grams of strong alcohol 5-6 hours before the festivities) can prepare your body for the upcoming strain. A “warmed-up” body kicks off the detox process, helping to eliminate toxins faster.
Water
The law of connected vessels states: if yesterday was overflowing, today will leave you parched. Alcohol is a powerful diuretic. After heavy drinking, your body becomes dehydrated, so the first step is to rehydrate it. And with what? Of course, water! Mineral water is best. Even better is sweetened water: you need to quickly stabilize your blood sugar levels. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a glass of water and add a teaspoon of sugar. Drink it slowly, no matter how unbearable your thirst may be.
Brine
During alcohol poisoning, the body is not only dehydrated but also depleted of salts. Brine can quickly bring you back to life. Whether cucumber or tomato, any kind will do. A true lifesaver is the juice from fermented cabbage.
Milk and Kefir
Fresh or sour milk effectively flushes out alcohol toxins. If you’ve overindulged, prevent a hangover by drinking half a liter of milk before bed – you’ll feel better in the morning. Even better, drink milk before the festivities: a glass every 2-3 hours (up to 3 liters a day). Kefir can also help. Mix a glass of kefir with a glass of mineral water and drink it in the evening, then repeat in the morning. You can drink this health elixir as much as you like.
Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola and energy drinks can be quite helpful for hangovers: they contain a lot of caffeine, sugar, and vitamins, which help normalize vascular tone, boost energy, empty the intestines, and eliminate toxins.
Fizz
A folk remedy: dissolve 2 teaspoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon each of vinegar and baking soda in a glass of water. Mix quickly and drink it all at once before the bubbles dissipate.
Khash
A hearty meat broth, hot khash is both a great appetizer and a remedy for hangovers. With herbs and garlic, it gently nourishes the body. This brilliant Caucasian invention doesn’t overload a stomach already burdened by alcohol.
Fermented Cabbage
If your body can’t handle food after a hangover, support it with fermented cabbage. Besides vitamin C, it contains enzymes that activate digestion. With their help, you’ll rid yourself of the toxins and waste that are poisoning your body more quickly.
Potassium
Like any diuretic, alcohol flushes potassium out of your system. Rich sources of this mineral include tomatoes, bananas, and citrus fruits. Quickly replenish your potassium levels with lemons, mandarins, oranges, bananas, and other fruits. Drink juices (fresh is best). Fresh juice will raise your blood sugar and alleviate hangover suffering. Tomato juice can also help.
Ginger
Cut a 2 cm piece of ginger root and boil it in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes (on low heat). Once the brew cools, add the juice of half a lemon or orange, along with 2 tablespoons of honey. Drink a glass every half hour – it’s an effective remedy for nausea.
Food
Once the nausea passes, a ravenous appetite will awaken. This is normal for a hangover. Scrambled eggs with bacon, fermented cabbage, and herbs are just what the doctor ordered! A hearty breakfast (or lunch or dinner) will replenish your strength, and a fragrant cup of tea with lemon will lift your spirits.
Pills
For hangover relief, Alka-Seltzer should be taken not only in the morning but also in advance, before bed. If you wake up at night, take 2 tablets of ibuprofen, pentalgin, or aspirin: you’ll feel better in the morning. Asparcam, pentoxifylline, and glycine can also help. For hangover syndrome, take activated charcoal (1 tablet for every 10 kg of body weight), which absorbs toxins.
Sleep
Sleep can alleviate the unpleasant effects of a hangover. Allow your body to cleanse itself of toxins. Forget about your responsibilities and just sleep. Your ailing body is incapable of physical or mental work. Moreover, straining your body in this state is dangerous for your health: it could lead to a stroke or heart attack.
Shower
If you absolutely need to get back on your feet, a contrast shower and stretching exercises are effective remedies. Your body will absorb oxygen and regain its tone. Just don’t lift anything heavy!
Alcohol
There’s a saying that “the best way to get rid of a hangover is to drink more.” During a severe hangover, blood vessels constrict to the point that it can lead to heart failure. To prevent this, a small amount of alcohol can quickly dilate the vessels. A reliable remedy to “fix” your health is 100 grams of vodka taken in two doses with a bowl of borscht. A classic hangover cocktail is the Bloody Mary: half a glass of vodka, half a glass of tomato juice, with a pinch of black pepper. Another option is an egg cocktail: mix a raw egg in a glass with 1/3 glass of tomato juice, 1/3 glass of vodka, and a pinch of red and black pepper. Drink it all at once. Light beer (0.5-1 liter) can also help. But don’t overdo it, as improperly managed hangover remedies can lead to a prolonged binge.
