FootballIn the Yugoslav city of Gračanica, a match was underway between local football teams. As the game neared its end, the fans began to chatter among themselves:
— They’re playing so lazily, not a single goal…
— On the contrary, they’re playing decently, but it seems both teams are evenly matched.
— Come on! The home team just doesn’t want to offend the guests, and the guests are returning the favor…
While the players chased the ball across the field and the fans traded barbs, a hare somehow appeared on the pitch. As it dashed past the home team’s goal, it noticed a ball flying toward it—panicking, it collided with the ball, and the ball… rolled right into the net!
It was quite a scene. But the real question wasn’t what the spectators shouted; it was the referee’s decision. What did he rule? He awarded the goal, and the match ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
This incident took place in Yugoslavia. The game was in full swing. Fans loudly predicted victory for their favorites. Their opponents insisted the match would even out and that everyone would soon see who would come out on top…
Then one of the players kicked the ball high into the air… The ball soared and… didn’t come back down.
The spectators were stunned: it wasn’t like the ball had flown to the moon. There were no trees around the stadium, yet the ball was nowhere to be found!
But soon, laughter erupted at one end of the stadium, while whistling and hooting came from the other…
What had happened?
The source of the commotion turned out to be an eagle. Flying low over the field, it spotted the ball in midair and snatched it in an unexpected catch. Only after flying a kilometer away from the stadium did the eagle assess its prize and drop the ball to the ground.
