The giraffe has the longest neck, reaching up to 10 feet. To get blood up to such a high head, a giraffe needs a powerful heart. That’s why a giraffe’s heart walls are thick—up to 3 inches. A weaker pump can’t push blood that high.
But a tiny bird like the sparrow still holds its own against the giraffe. Sparrows have twice as many neck vertebrae as the tallest land animal!
