An elderly man from Moscow bought a duck at the store. When he brought it home, his wife began to prepare the bird. But as she cut into the bird’s crop, four shiny stones fell out along with some leftover food and sand. They were yellow, very heavy, and could be scratched with the tip of a knife.
It turned out that the duck had been carrying gold nuggets in its crop.
People began to wonder where the duck had come from. It came from various regions—Rostov, Kurgan, Belgorod, as well as Krasnodar and Stavropol. However, the exact origin of the “gold-bearing” duck remained a mystery.
It turns out that finding gold in a duck’s crop and intestines isn’t as rare as it sounds. In China’s Hunan province, ducks are raised in large numbers, and when they are processed, their insides are examined carefully. Hunan ducks forage in mud that contains gold dust. Over time, the walls of their intestines can become coated with a thin layer of gold.
So, in a sense, ducks can mine for gold!
