How to Give Your Baby the Healthiest Start Before Birth

Raising a child begins long before they are born.

Parenting should start the moment a mother feels her baby moving inside her. During pregnancy, it’s important for a woman to keep a positive mood, avoid conflicts, steer clear of negative thinking, and limit stress and excessive worry.

The expectant mother’s mood and overall well-being strongly influence the baby’s health and development while the baby is still in the womb.

A pregnant woman can do any work that is safe and manageable for her health at that time. Spend as much time outdoors as possible, but avoid getting chilled.

Eat a variety of nutritious foods, especially fresh vegetables and fruits. Avoid alcohol and very spicy foods.

Stay active and walk often, especially during the last two months of pregnancy.

Keep an eye on your weight to avoid gaining too much, since excessive weight can hinder the baby’s development. If you begin to gain weight, don’t reduce your food intake; increase your physical activity and continue with manageable tasks.

Walking is especially beneficial — the more you walk in the final weeks, the easier your labor is likely to be.
