Cut two parts of wax into small pieces and melt them over low heat. Before that, dissolve one part of pure potash completely in water and strain it through a cloth. Gradually pour the potash solution into the hot wax. Once the wax and potash solution are combined, return the mixture to the heat, bring it to a good boil, and gradually add, in small pieces, one-quarter of a bar of household soap. After a few minutes, remove the pan from the heat. Prepare another container and add a bit of yellow dye or ochre (used to color wool or cotton); thoroughly mix the dye with water first to avoid any clumps, then pour the hot liquid into that container. Return the pan to the heat and bring the solution to a boil two or three times. If the mastic is too thick, dilute it with water until it reaches the consistency of cream. Shake the container frequently while applying to ensure an even coating on the parquet floor, which must be clean and dry. Apply the mastic along the boards in a single coat. It dries quickly and has no odor.
