In their latest project, the renowned architectural firm , founded by the legendary Zaha Hadid, drew inspiration from the stunning landscapes of Hong Kong’s suburbs.
The massive eco-friendly sports complex, GO PARK Sai Sha, spans over 120,000 square feet. It seamlessly integrates between the Ma On Shan suburban park and Three Fathoms Cove. The project’s developer, Sun Hung Kai Properties, hopes that the newly created complex will attract the public with its indoor and outdoor recreational areas, restaurants, shops, and cultural venues. The first phase features an extensive network of locations for sports training and competitions.
The designers of the complex were inspired by the mountainous scenery and traditional architecture of Hong Kong’s villages. It’s no surprise that the structure is not a monolithic design but rather a series of interconnected volumes and terraces that echo the contours of the local natural beauty. Ultimately, all paths lead to a central plaza, an open meeting space surrounded by shops and cafes that has already become a hub of community life in the area.
In designing GO PARK Sai Sha, the Zaha Hadid Architects team connected its various facilities with walkways, paths, and bridges. A long ramp traverses the entire park, linking commercial, recreational, and cultural zones across multiple levels, ultimately leading to a rooftop garden that offers panoramic views of the sports complex and the picturesque cove.
This design emphasizes accessibility and openness, as reported by Designboom. The boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces are intentionally blurred, giving the complex a sense of permeability. The plaza, sports fields, and gardens are organically complemented by shaded walkways and green terraces.
The complex features an indoor stadium with a capacity of 1,500, a fencing hall, a swimming academy, basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer and lacrosse fields, and climbing walls. There are also dedicated bike and running paths.
The entire sports area of GO PARK Sai Sha is organized so that visitors can enjoy beautiful views while training and can relax in restaurants and cultural venues after their workouts. Or simply unwind outdoors.
