Recently, we lost Robert Redford—a Hollywood legend and one of the most desirable men in the world.
But what made this heartthrob so captivating? According to renowned plastic surgeon Julian De Silva from London, it all comes down to the Greek golden ratio of beauty—a formula for determining the ideal proportions of the human body and face.
“The ancient Greeks used this mathematical ratio to measure beauty and harmony,” Dr. De Silva explained in his blog.
The “divine proportion” (another name for the golden ratio), which is approximately 1.618, is typically represented in mathematics by the Greek letter φ. Objects constructed with the golden ratio are perceived as harmonious and aesthetically pleasing. For centuries, it has helped define the correct proportions in nature, art, and architecture. This principle was the foundation for Leonardo da Vinci’s , which describes the ideal male body.
So, how did Robert Redford (1936-2025) measure up according to this ancient formula for beauty?
The Daily Mail utilized cutting-edge AI technology, GoldenRatioAI, to analyze Redford’s face according to the golden ratio. They selected a frontal photo of the actor from his youth for the test. The results were stunning and, at the same time, expected: his face matched the golden ratio 82.31 percent of the time.
Brilliant Hair Throughout His Life
In addition to his attractive face, Redford was known for his beautiful, shiny hair. According to a study conducted in 2021 by researchers at Bucknell University (USA), this feature may have also contributed to the actor’s allure.
During the study, a team led by T. Joel Wade showed participants photographs of men with and without hair and asked them to rate them on parameters such as attractiveness, physical fitness, warmth, sophistication, and kindness.
According to the findings published in the journal Evolutionary Psychological Science, men with hair were rated as more attractive, fitter, and possessing better personal qualities.
While the reason for this connection remains unclear, researchers suggested that hair is a good indicator of a man’s health.
