My Favorite Parable

Two monks were walking along a path when they came across a river that needed to be crossed on foot. On the bank stood a woman, looking confused and unsure of how to get across. One of the monks picked her up and carried her over, setting her down safely on the other side. They continued on their way. The second monk, visibly upset, exclaimed, “What are you doing? She’s a woman! We’re monks! Why did you carry her?” This went on for the entire journey. Finally, the first monk stopped and said, “I carried her and set her down. You’re the one still carrying her.”

P.S. How often do we find ourselves like that monk who is “still carrying” the burden?
