Non-physical smartphone: the technologies of the future are already here.

Humane AI Pin – a projector that can be worn attached to clothing. It functions as a non-physical smartphone, projecting apps, calls, and voice assistance onto hands or surfaces.

Futuristic non-physical smartphone

The non-physical smartphone was created from scratch using artificial intelligence by former Apple design chief Imran Chaudhri and his team. It was unveiled at the TED2023 conference in Vancouver, Canada. The thumb-sized device is equipped with cameras for scanning and observing the surroundings, hidden sensors for activation, and built-in speakers.

During the demonstration of the capabilities of the non-physical smartphone, Chaudhry answered a call from his wife. The pin attached to his jacket blinked with a ringtone on the inventor’s palm.

Mr. Chaudhry can answer a phone call not by pressing the green button, which is usually found on smartphones, but by voice. He uses a lexical command that activates the call pickup function.

The inventor adds that the user doesn’t even need a smartphone or other electronics to connect to his device. You just need to wear the pin-device or attach it to your clothing to activate all available functions.

The Humane AI Pin clearly demonstrates that technologies are becoming even more futuristic. As noted by the publication Designboom Mr. Chaudhry plans to truly release a projector and a smartphone that can be worn on the body in the near future.

The Humane AI Pin uses optical sensors that enable the interaction of contextual and ambient computing. This allows for the deployment of seamless, screenless, and touchless technology for a wearable projector and smartphone.

In another demonstration of the innovative device’s capabilities, Mr. Chaudhry asks the pin where he can find a gift for his wife. He does this by first placing his finger on the device where the sensors are located. After a few seconds, possibly as a result of analyzing the question and searching for an answer, the Humane AI Pin provides a specific response (naming Granville Island in Vancouver).

The non-physical smartphone also functions as a voice assistant, in addition to web searches and quick queries. It seems that it could also become a personal assistant: for example, Mr. Chaudhry’s non-physical smartphone will be able to remind the user about their health issues.

The inventor demonstrates this capability by holding a chocolate bar in front of the pin and asking if he can eat it. The Humane AI Pin initially provides a description of the chocolate and then concludes, “Considering your allergy to this product, you should avoid it.”

Mr. Chaudhry believes that artificial intelligence gives people a tremendous opportunity to change their attitude towards technology. Moreover, it will allow personal mobile to computers to become faster, more powerful, and easier to use. As the inventor adds, the first Humane AI Pin device will allow people to take artificial intelligence with them everywhere, so his team is eagerly anticipating the moment it will be launched this year.
