The miraculous spice for the wise: cinnamon enhances memory and attention.

A new study published in the journal Nutritional Neuroscience reveals that cinnamon enhances human cognitive abilities. This spice should be a staple in the diets of those who engage in mental work, particularly students. Researchers have found that cinnamon contributes to improved memory and attention.

An international team of scientists analyzed the findings of dozens of previous studies focused on the impact of cinnamon on mental performance, leading to some intriguing conclusions.

The New Magic of a Well-Known Spice

Cinnamon is a widely used aromatic spice derived from the bark of cinnamon trees. It is commonly found in baked goods and savory dishes. Cinnamon oil is also a popular ingredient among perfumers. This spice not only boasts a unique flavor and aroma but is also rich in beneficial properties. Scientists have repeatedly highlighted cinnamon’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Some researchers have even confirmed its positive influence on the immune system, labeling it a cancer-fighting food.

The new study showcased somewhat different characteristics of this spice. It positively affects brain function, effectively enhancing memory and attention. To substantiate this, the research team reviewed 2,605 official studies stored in several scientific online databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. They then narrowed their analysis down to 40 studies, as reported by MedicalXpress.

In their report, the authors stated that according to the studies, the use of cinnamon or its components, such as eugenol, cinnamaldehyde, and cinnamic acid, can positively influence cognitive functions.

One clinical study that caught the researchers’ attention involved teenagers. At the request of the scientists, these young individuals periodically chewed cinnamon-flavored gum. The study demonstrated that even simple chewing of cinnamon gum improved memory, attention, and reduced anxiety among the adolescents.

According to the scientists, cinnamon could be used as an adjunctive treatment for related health conditions. However, this topic requires further investigation.

The main takeaway from this extensive analysis is that cinnamon and some of its active components positively impact human brain function, enhancing memory and attention necessary for learning. In the future, these findings may inspire other research teams to further explore the benefits of cinnamon for maintaining brain function and slowing cognitive decline.
