A farmer on Flores Island (part of the Lesser Sunda Islands) came home from the forest carrying a wriggling bag. Neighborhood kids swarmed him, each eager to see what was inside. When one curious child peeked into the bag, he ran out of the hut in sheer fright. Inside was a baby python.
Time passed, and the python grew into a full-sized snake, weighing 140 kilograms (about 310 pounds) and stretching nearly 6 meters (around 20 feet). It stayed gentle and obedient. The python became so attached to its owner that it followed him everywhere like a loyal dog and even helped with his work.
For example, when the farmer went to the garden to harvest crops, the python climbed into the trees and shook down only the ripe fruit, leaving the green ones to mature.
