Thrills at dizzying heights: an innovative resort will rise in the mountains of Oman.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning of Oman, plans are underway to combine three mountain villages for the construction of the Omani Mountain Destination resort area.

This multifunctional resort will be built at an altitude of 2,400 meters in the Jebel Al Akhdar mountain range. The project has been designed by the engineering firm Atkins Réalis.

It will accommodate 8,000 residents and create 5,000 jobs.

What the New High-Altitude Resort in Oman Will Look Like

The three villages, located atop the mountains, will be connected by bridges and trails carved into the landscape. The primary mode of transportation in this hilly terrain will be a cable car.

The project will include the construction of 2,527 residential homes and 2,000 hotel rooms. Additionally, there will be a wellness village, a high-altitude training center, an amphitheater, a museum, and a biodiversity center. The resort area is expected to welcome an average of 2,000 visitors daily, with 2,350 overnight guests.

Among the tourist attractions at Omani Mountain Destination will be a park featuring agricultural lands and an extreme sports center, where visitors can engage in mountain biking, bungee jumping, and rock climbing.

Furthermore, a slope trail for adventurous visitors will be built within the National Scenic Reserve.

Presentation images of Omani Mountain Destination showcase spaces bordered by paved paths and open areas, interspersed with patches of greenery and water features.

Meanwhile, new residential and community buildings will rise in densely populated areas, with infrastructure integrated into the slopes of the mountains.

Eco-Friendliness Above All

This high-tech project is a key component of the “Vision Oman 2040” plan, which aims to “achieve a developed, diversified, and sustainable national economy with equitable distribution of development outcomes and protection of natural resources.” Under this plan, Oman is investing significantly in tourism and preparing numerous unforgettable experiences for visitors, as reported by Dezeen.

According to high-ranking officials in the country, the Omani Mountain Destination will cost $2.4 billion. The resort aims for low energy consumption, primarily achievable through passive design and renewable energy sources.

The project’s eco-friendliness includes the reuse of materials, utilizing soil from the mountain range in construction. The plan also includes solar farms outside the area, residential solar panels, and a car-free environment within walking distance of infrastructure facilities.
