Ingredients:
- 2 boiled beets
- 1 boiled carrot
- 2 boiled potatoes
- 3.5 oz cream cheese
- 1 package of mayonnaise (preferably full-fat)
- 1 lightly salted herring
- 1.5 tsp gelatin
Instructions:
Soak the gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water until it swells. Dissolve it in a double boiler without boiling. Let it cool, then mix it with the mayonnaise. Grate the beets, carrot, and potatoes on a fine grater. Cut the herring into pieces.
Lay several layers of plastic wrap on the table. Add 3–4 tablespoons of the gelatin-mayonnaise mixture to the grated beets, mix well, and spread the beet mixture onto the plastic wrap. Add the cream cheese mixed with 2–3 tablespoons of the gelatin mixture.
Make each subsequent layer smaller in area than the previous one. This is essential!
Add the grated carrot with 2–3 tablespoons of the gelatin mixture. Layer the potatoes with the same amount of the mixture. Lightly salt each layer. Place the herring in a line down the center of the rectangle.
Use a rolling technique similar to making sushi rolls: carefully hold the edges of the plastic wrap and roll the salad into a log. Wrap the log in foil and refrigerate for a few hours. Slice the “fur coat” into rounds, like a roll.
Enjoy!
