When your child is small, their feeding schedule usually doesn’t line up with the family’s meal times. It can also be challenging to feed a little one at the table. But as they grow, learn to use a spoon, and start eating at the same times as everyone else, it’s time to let them join the adults.
Don’t make the child the center of attention. Avoid entertaining them; encourage them to eat independently, and don’t give them foods that aren’t meant for children. The whole family should take a unified approach. Don’t let one person allow the child to try a dish or treat while another forbids it.
Consistency in expectations is essential; it’s one of the most important parts of good parenting.
