In America, people sometimes hold competitions for things like the longest piano-playing session or the longest dance marathon. Some people have even danced for four straight days without stopping, all for a dubious title. It’s hard to say whether anyone has ever hosted a contest for simply standing on their feet, but if they had, the winner still wouldn’t take the top prize.
In nature, one group that likely holds the record for staying on its feet the longest is elephants. No one has ever seen an adult African elephant lie down. When resting, they sometimes lean their tusks against a tree trunk or rest them on the lower branches.
Thus, for roughly a hundred years, an elephant spends most of its life on its feet.
