For busy individuals, baking in a cooking sleeve is the perfect way to prepare meals, as it requires minimal involvement from the cook and keeps kitchen utensils and equipment clean. You can bake meat, poultry, or fish either on their own or alongside vegetables that will be served with them. Ingredients can be cooked whole or cut into pieces, with cooking time depending on their size. Meat in a sleeve should be baked for 40 minutes to 2 hours, while poultry, fish, and vegetables take about 30 minutes (whole vegetables will need around an hour). Simply place the marinated or chopped ingredients into the baking sleeve, tightly tie it at both ends, and release any excess air. A nice detail for those who prefer a healthy diet: you can prepare this meal without oil—the ingredients will cook in their own juices.
Ingredients (for 6 servings): 900 g beef; 900 g potatoes; 1 carrot; 1 onion; 1 sweet pepper*; 2 tomatoes*; 2 cloves of garlic; 2 tablespoons vegetable oil; 1 bay leaf; meat seasoning to taste; ½ teaspoon ground red pepper; ½ teaspoon ground black pepper; 1 teaspoon salt.
*Note: The tomatoes and sweet pepper in this recipe are optional additional ingredients (you can choose one or the other).
Cut the meat, potatoes, carrot, pepper, tomatoes, and onion into medium-sized pieces, and mince the garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and spices, and add oil if desired, then mix well.
Place all the ingredients into the baking sleeve, tie it up, and lay it in a baking dish or tray. Put the sleeve with its contents into a preheated oven at 200°C (about 400°F). Bake for 90 minutes.
Tip
When placing the prepared ingredients in the preheated oven, you can poke a few holes in the sleeve with a toothpick to prevent it from puffing up and bursting during cooking. To achieve a golden, crispy crust on the dish, cut the sleeve open at the end of the baking time so that the beef and vegetables can brown in the final minutes in the oven.
